HAPPPENS EVERYWHEREEE

I think every school is basically a party school to single one out is some what ridiculous. Even private schools still have a large party scene. I think that being deliberately destructive is more than unnecessary, but if you decide to live in a college town it is a chance that you must be willing to take. The way people act is a reflection of them, and if they are willing to shame themselves then they must live with the consequences. Many people at Penn State do not consume alcohol, but I live by a small university in Scranton and they party just as hard and just as frequent. They act the same way peeing in streets and being destructive every school is a wet campus no matter how much they pride themselves on being dry they are just kidding themselves. Instead of trying to lower the partying they should be teaching the students how to be safe while consuming alcohol.

It has strong ethos when it talks about the privates homes because people may have kids and its hard to feel like what your doing is okay when your affecting the lives of the youth who can not help but live there. The weak is when they discuss older people tailgating? They are saying it's wrong, but is this about the youth or Penn State in general because it can not be based on alumni and random fans. It does make drunk people look stupid, but these people would look stupid no matter what University they were at it has nothing to do with the school its drunk people in general.


Yes they are called Frackets and you wear them to Frats in order to not destroy your north faces or other nice jackets.

It shows PSU unfavorably, but I do not agree I think it is about tradition students spend their weeks working and blow off steam at the end of the week this is not just PSU this is EVERY university in the country. I think it is ridiculous to call any school the number one party school or rank them we have a large school so clearly there are going to me more parties. I think that most of the cases in this are just drunk people in general, and that this occurs seriously everywhere, but in all honestly I have seen way worse things in my small hometown then I have seen here.

People Watching 101

The center of excitement at Penn State is the HUB, but to me a spot across the road in front of the Osmond Laboratory provides much more excitement. There you can find angled black onyx rocks with water trickling down. The soft sound of the water fall is what relaxes me before I walk into my math course. There I sit Indian style curled up on a square slab of rock. The waterfall and relaxation is just an added bonus the true treat is the people watching that occurs in this spot on campus. There I can see it all and imagine what the individuals are thinking as they go about their day to day activities. I see girls trying to walk in heels to class which strikes me as funny being as its 1 Pm not 1 Am and they are headed to bio not the bar. I also see diversity and culture over hearing several languages as students pass by. It’s a place where you can sit and day dream for hours or in my case until my next class or you can relax and listen to the calming sounds of the water falling from the jagged rocks. Rain or shine you can count on the water fall to work just as rain or shine you can count of the students to pass by in a thought provoking manner.

This picture has a woman digging with a shovel in thick mud. Her apparel isn't typical for the type of work she is doing instead of work attire she is wearing a dress and open toed heels. Behind her in the background is the outline of a city. The painting isn't very colorful and only contains the shades of yellow, red, black, and white. Its drawn is a cartoonist kind of fashion and is larger than life.

The rhetorical situation in this piece is women’s right to equal pay for equal work. It’s a contemporary piece because women still are not getting paid as much as the men who work the same jobs and same hours as they do. This piece is making a huge political and social statement. It shows women how society views them in dresses with open toed shoes, not really out in the world getting their hands dirty. Instead they should stay in their house wife attires never aspiring to be any more than a secretary or a stay at home mom catering to the needs of her husband and children. This woman on the other hand is digging in the mud refusing to sit back and do “women’s work.” This piece about how women are viewed compared with how they should be viewed. It’s no longer the dark ages men and women are equal even though someone might picture a woman in a dress sitting in an office taking messages doesn’t mean she’s not qualified to get dirty and show the world what hard work truly is.

This piece changes my mood to anger and resentment being a woman coming into the work force I don’t want to be treated differently than the man next to me doing the same job as me. I also think that just because women may dress up and have more delicate of an appearance doesn’t mean we are weak and can’t accomplish great things. Another aspect of this piece that really drives my emotions is the colors schemes chosen. The red and yellow resemble a fire and the intense anger that the woman is experiencing for being treated unjustly. Next the black and white symbolize how the view on women hasn’t changed much and is still almost archaic to their true capabilities and potential to do great things.

Jerry Kearns is very into larger than life Pop Art he does a great deal with political and social issues in the country which makes him a credible artist. It’s claiming that women will no longer be depicted like how they were in the past they will overcome the stereotypes of the typical and housewife and hold careers and overcome whatever stands in their paths. I think the claim of this piece is more informative and expressive then persuasive he’s letting the viewer know his feelings but wants them to form their own opinion on the subject.

I am actually not a museum goer, but this class seems to be about experiencing new things I was happy for the chance to get to check out our campuses museum, but as for me as far as art goes I’d rather preform dance or watch someone else preform it. I do however have an immense passion for history, and my art history class is starting to show me connections between paintings and the history. So may be in the future I will be more interested in museums.

The Creativity within

I have always found myself to be the type of person who lets their mind and imagination wonder to places far beyond the naked eye's reach. I can sit for hours coming up with different scenarios and situations in my head. I have always found that I possess somewhat of a creative flare which has always been one of my strengths when it comes to writing. In high school I took a creative writing course, and soon found myself consumed in the assignments waiting anxiously to hear what the next prompt would be. It gave me a chance to be whoever I wanted to be, to put myself into the character's shoes, and escape into a new time and place. Also I benefited from a Catholic School education where grammar and diction were both drilled into my head like the screws of a cabinet. Unfortunately with strengths come weaknesses. More often than not I find myself going off topic with my writing due to my intense passion for the piece, but details should have some limitation which I still need to learn. Another one of my weaknesses is following fiction more than fact my immense imagination can sometimes cause problems with my writings that need to be more factual then imaginative.

I’d really like to learn not to second guess myself so much and just let my ideas flow because the worst that could happen is revision. I think dedicating more of time to writing would be healthy maybe to get my emotions out so that when I try to write for class my emotions don’t sway my writing as much. I also think atmosphere has a lot to do writing I think if I could find a spot that reflects the emotions of the piece I’m writing that my writing would show a greater amount of passion. I think time management is another thing I will need to improve on with my writing. Instead of waiting till the last minute I will write right away so I have more time to go through the editing process and make sure my piece lives up to all the potential I possess as a writer.

This course will help by keeping me focused on topics and narrow my choices of writing a little more than I was used to in my creative writing course which will help me stay focused and on topic instead of my usual drift. Time limits set in class will also help to make sure I don’t procrastinate, but instead start my work early and allow enough time for my fellow classmates to read and revise my writing. I think this class will be good for my writing because it will allow me to branch out into new styles, but yet let me keep my imaginative and creative flare that I’ve written with throughout all of my high school career. I also think the blog will be a good way to express my emotions in a less formal way.

I selected this photo as my piece of art because not only is it a beautiful piece of photography it’s what I’ve spent many of my years doing, dancing. I feel that dance is one of the most exquisite types of art because it comes in so many forms, and has so many purposes. It can be cultural like Spanish Flamenco, or the traditional like the Russian nutcracker. It can be social or isolated. It expresses so much emotion so for me it’s a perfect way to describe what art is and even deeper who I am.
