Kiss Me Kate

Unfortunately I did not get to see the Penn State student production of Kiss Me Kate because I had to go home for a death in the family. So I had to result to the You Tube movie instead.... not nearly as entertaining as going to the theater. Especially for me because I have been dancing since the age of three and have gone to musicals just as HairSpray, Wicked, and even the comical Legally Blonde to name just a few.

It was also really hard to concentrate on the movie because the woman who played Lois's voice was giving me a really terrible headache. It is then broken up by Miss.Vanessi and the director banging things which is somewhat amusing because her object ends up not banging and at that point the conversation begins about the incident that had occurred early which add comic relief.

As I said I spent much of my life dancing so my favorite scenes in the movie were the dancing scenes The Too Darn Hot sequence was one of the most amusing to me because he kept a comedic personality through out the whole song which just added entertainment.

My favorite part though I will have to say is Brush up your Shakespeare. I think its hysterical that they say if your brush up on your Shakespeare you can easily get women they are just also so entertaining to watch their little tiny dance movements are just so funny. The best one how ever is when they talk about reciting a sonnet and saying your lap will have honey upon it. Its things like this that made this scene so funny.

I really wish that I could of seen the play at Penn State though because I honestly did not like the movie very much. Seeing a play is so much better than watching a movie about a play in a play at that point its over kill. Going to the theater is just a better experience because it makes you feel so much more engaged when just watching something online you feel miles away because you truly are. Also its hard to listen to all the singing without being in person because it seems like it drags on for ages at least if I was at the theater the rest of the experience would of made up for it because I have never been about the singing I like to see really great dancing which the movie only had some of.

number 10

Mrs. S,

I have done the SRTE

love,
Devon : )

changing over time

I am now 1/8 done with my time here at PSU (sounds kind of depressing), but I have grown in this short time already. I can do my own laundry, keep my room in somewhat decent order(my mom would definitely still disagree), manage my time, and still have time to myself. I learned how to drive for success. Specifically I was pushed to write things I would not normally write like an Ad analysis that was tricky, and probably my least favorite out of all of them, but that means I learned the most from it. I was taken out of my comfort zone luckily I got to revisit it with the memoir piece because It was writing about feelings and life experience which I had done through out all of high school . This class showed me high school is over and the real world is here, and there is going to be many things I don't want to do, but I will have to persevere through the difficult tasks if I want to survive here at Penn State. This semester has been a difficult one with all the turmoil here at school, but this class and the discussions have definitely helped me work through frustrations and keep level headed. I also definitely feel more well versed in the arts because of this class which is always a good quality to have. I learned that art is everywhere dreams, nature, etc.

I also learned about myself through this class how little sleep i could
run on while trying to edit papers and how much coffee I could drink. It was a shock to my system but I found it is possible the be an insomniac and still succeed. Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks should literally give me free coffee for a month for all I have contributed to their sales just based on long hours of paper writing. I will take all of the things I learned in this class and apply them to my next 7 semesters here and better yet the rest of my life.

Teacher's Readings

For my second arts requirement I chose the poetry read during class time by our lovely and talented teacher . Over all it was a great experience you see a person in front of you for months that the university tells you is qualified, but you do not really know until they prove it to you which the readings did for me. My favorite one in particular was the self portrait through amusement parks although I do not have a complete one yet I found I could relate up to this far with it, but with my own memories. The part about going down the slide and the ripping of the bathing suit reminded me of when me and my mother went down a water slide in tubes at the Jersey shore when I was 4 and she tipped it dunking me into the water.... I haven't gone with her on one sense. So to me it was easily relate able how tiny moments shape your entire life. How we all have a moment of family happiness like Maui or a point in life when we don't know what's next, but we are searching and hoping to find it. I deeply enjoyed hearing these readings.

We Are... STILL STRONG

My temper and emotions had finally toned down actually with the thoughts of going home for Thanksgiving, and being around my family who have always been there for me. Then I watched the Daily show clip and now It's like the beginning has started allover again. WHAT A SUPRISE ! again someone fails to mentions the victim, and instead makes this all a big joke ? I know the daily show isn't supposed to be serious, but honestly how do you sleep at night after after joking about a case like this ? Do you have any self worth ? Yes we are outraged the coach we've had for years and years has been taken from us, but if the media didn't start slaying him and our school half the things that happened could of been prevented. Honestly they should blame themselves. They made this a witch hunt and if anyone died during it our got injured it's on them. MORE importantly than all of this. Is those now 9 boys whose innocence was taken from them. I read the grand jury report trying not to throw up and cry at the same time. I couldn't even imagine how much pain they feel. How hard it must of been for them to wake up every morning. How did none of these parents suspect anything or the ones that did why didn't you fight harder? To me that's the saddest part, my mother can tell somethings wrong with me instantly even hours away, here at PSU. It breaks my heart they were so blind or busy not to notice their suffering children. I hate the comment "rape state," and all the other jibes at the school ONE man's illness doesn't define a school. We are... SO MUCH MORE. We are the 15,000 committee members raising money to fight pediatric cancer. That's not including all the orgs, frats , and sororities who also participate in THON. We Are... smart and will be prepared to go out into the world and find jobs with our Penn State diplomas unlike the complete ignorant morons who burned theirs, stop being an attention seeker, again NOT ABOUT YOU. Pretty sure that education at the school your so quick to turn your back on got you your job .... We Are... INNOCENT. BELIEVE it or NOT we are not all involved in this scandal I was 6 when it happened, but yup I'm clearly the problem... So instead of focusing on the scandal I think people need to focus on the cause to stop child abuse, and make the victims feel safe again because THEY are what's important.

May No Act of Ours Bring Shame, Penn State forever.

Drake

Thursday I spent my night at a Drake concert in the BJC. It was not a poetry reading or an acoustic band, but it was an uplifting experience. He came at a time when our Penn State bubble was crumbling and sadness filled us to the core. He wore a Penn State sweatshirt and gave us a break from a night of rioting to come together as a community and enjoy our common bond of music. I am a huge fan of Drake, but even those who are not should respect the fact that he did not cancel due to all the violence and instead brought us closer together and made us forget what was going on even if it was just for a few short hours. I did not even want to get out of bed that morning, but the concert made me not want to go home. In my opinion he did what all artists aspire to do to link people together who have a common bond and try to make them forget the pain in their life even if it is just brief. It was a worth while time and I am glad I motivated myself to go.

HAPPPENS EVERYWHEREEE

I think every school is basically a party school to single one out is some what ridiculous. Even private schools still have a large party scene. I think that being deliberately destructive is more than unnecessary, but if you decide to live in a college town it is a chance that you must be willing to take. The way people act is a reflection of them, and if they are willing to shame themselves then they must live with the consequences. Many people at Penn State do not consume alcohol, but I live by a small university in Scranton and they party just as hard and just as frequent. They act the same way peeing in streets and being destructive every school is a wet campus no matter how much they pride themselves on being dry they are just kidding themselves. Instead of trying to lower the partying they should be teaching the students how to be safe while consuming alcohol.

It has strong ethos when it talks about the privates homes because people may have kids and its hard to feel like what your doing is okay when your affecting the lives of the youth who can not help but live there. The weak is when they discuss older people tailgating? They are saying it's wrong, but is this about the youth or Penn State in general because it can not be based on alumni and random fans. It does make drunk people look stupid, but these people would look stupid no matter what University they were at it has nothing to do with the school its drunk people in general.

Yes they are called Frackets and you wear them to Frats in order to not destroy your north faces or other nice jackets.

It shows PSU unfavorably, but I do not agree I think it is about tradition students spend their weeks working and blow off steam at the end of the week this is not just PSU this is EVERY university in the country. I think it is ridiculous to call any school the number one party school or rank them we have a large school so clearly there are going to me more parties. I think that most of the cases in this are just drunk people in general, and that this occurs seriously everywhere, but in all honestly I have seen way worse things in my small hometown then I have seen here.
